Unemployment Benefits Overpayments : Asked for Money Back! Do you have to Repay?
Across America Unemployment Insurance agencies are asking for millions of dollars of unemployment overpayments back from people who incorrectly got too much money in their unemployment checks. Hundreds of thousands of people on unemployment benefits are being asked to pay back some of their unemployment benefits because of state unemployment agencies incorrectly give them too much money. This has happened because states Unemployment programs have been overrun with applications, overworked and understaffed. This has caused unemployment agencies to increasingly miscalculate unemployment benefits, under verify eligibility, and in some case overpay unemployment benefits to hundreds of thousands of Americans, who are recently unemployed. At first this may seem like an error in the favor of those who receive the extra unemployment benefits, but over the last month as some states unemployment agencies are finally catching up to their workloads they have begun auditing their Unemployment benefits programs and have been catching the mistakes . For example 24000 people in Ohio , 35,000 in Virginia and 46651 in Texas were found to have receive unemployment overpayments; and now the states are requesting the over payment amounts back , making financially rough situations even worst for those people who got the overpayments.
