In America food prices have jumped to historic heights not seen in the last 50 years and are still rising, all the while government food benefits programs like SNAP have not been able to adjust their benefits fast enough to ensure that the neediest families get adequate food resources. With the increased food costs, we all must be more conscientious at the grocery store about what foods we can afford. But for many Americans who rely on food assistance programs like SNAP and WIC it means they may even have to go without some staple foods. This is because although there has been some temporary expansions and extensions made to food assistance programs like SNAP, they are not keeping pace with the rapidly increasing cost of food caused by the pandemic. Disproportionally this is affecting how low-income Americans like Seniors, Children and people with disabilities get their food.
