Great Plates Delivered Program: Free Meals for Seniors in California Program Extended. How to Apply?

The Great Plates Delivered Program provides food assistance to California seniors who not eligible for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program CalFresh (SNAP) / Food Stamps, is going to be extended until July 10th. The “Great Plates Delivered” is a first in the nation program that uses public money to pay private restaurants to deliver food to seniors who are unable to prepare or purchase food because of the pandemic. It provides eligible seniors with three meals a day from a local restaurant. The program has been operating for the last two months and has assisted nearly 30,00 California seniors to get food. Last week Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that the Great Plates delivered program will be extended into July. The program has been touted as a success despite some of the drawbacks some seniors have faced when trying to apply. This is because some low-income seniors are “too needy” to qualify. Today we are going to talk about how long the Great Plates Delivered program has been extended, what are some of the issues low income seniors are having applying, and include some additional resources at the end for people who would still like to apply for the Great Plates program. Please do not forget to like and subscribe.
